Do you know of any job posting sites that have jobs filtered by MBTI type OR any way to sort job postings by MBTI type?
Long version
I have read that most people get “let go” not because of a cited lack of a skill or ability but rather due to corporate culture or “personality” differences, i.e. not because they could not perform a specific function or didn’t have a specific credential but rather due to some form of personality related issue. It also follows that the majority of people that get fired are usually not happy with their job in the first place and the typical reasons cited are related to personality issues. So I thought it would be good to find a way to screen companies and positions by the type of MBTI’s you would be working with and what type of MBTI would be a best fit for the role.
Perhaps this is a good idea to make such a site, but this doesn’t really seem like a novel ideal given the plethora of MBTI sites out there that even sell wholesale MBTI processing capabiliteies. I just don’t understand why the 2 have not been linked together. I mean I get that MBTI is more a role than a job description but every position in a company is a role so why don’t we do a role based analysis as well as the other skill based analysis?...if I am good at the role I know I can learn any skill to fill the role or die trying.

When reading up on the famous ENTPs from both Keirsey and Butt it seems that these authors hold the ENTP in a somewhat lesser esteem that other NTs. One moot point that particularly stresses this impression is the fact that their lists of famous ENTPs combined amounts to litte more than Hollywood actors and assorted second-rate celebrities.

(Although I was flattered to find Alexander the Great under famous ENTPs I think we can all agree that the details of his life are too sporadic to make this any more than high speculative at best.)

Furthermore the selected celebreties rely alot on explorers and inventors in the litteral sense of the word, (ie Colombus or Tesla). I do not know about you but this does not fit my personality at all.

I have a hard time believing that there are no better role models for us as ENTPs. Please join me in compiling a richer list.

Allow me to start myself: How about these candidates for famous ENTPs?

Socrates: Never committed anything to writing, searched out theoretical discussion at every given moment, iconoclastic, critical of established tradition. Keirsey types him an INTP but I am yet to be confronted with a good argument as to why this should be so.

Leonardo da Vinci: Who compiled endless notes on various theoretical subjects but never published a single coherent written work. Invented a large number of ingenious machines and took an interest to almost every subject of his day.

Oscar Wilde: One of the most successful playwrights of late Victorian London, and one of the greatest celebrities of his day, known for his barbed and clever wit. Although a proficient and versatile writer, Wilde only wrote one novel during his lifetime.

There is a lot of different information out there regarding romantic compatibility between types. Among others, I know of the following theories of perfect matches:

- Opposites attract (INTJ + ESFP, ISTP + ENFJ etc.)

- Keirsey: Opposites attract, but N or S must be the same (INTJ + ENFP, ISTP + ESFJ etc.)

- Personalitypage: The dominant function must be shared, but oppositely directed (INTJ with Introverted Intuition + ENFP _or_ ENTP since both have Extraverted Intuition, ISTP with Introverted Thinking + ESTJ _or_ ENTJ since both have Extraverted Thinking)

Based on my own observations, I believe that Keirsey has it right when he insists that N or S should be the same. I also believe that Personalitypage is correct in emphasizing the importance of having the same dominant function. Finally, I believe that, as long as the basic language (N or S) and interest (dominant function) are the same, opposites do indeed attract and complement one another.

I therefore propose the following hierarchy of relationship matches:

---

Condition 1: The dominant function must be the same, but oppositely directed.
Condition 2: The perceiving function (N or S) must be the same.

If possible once these conditions are met, the judging function (T or F) should be different.

---

This leads to the following eight optimal matches:

INTJ-ENFP (Dominant function: Intuition, T and F opposite)
ENTP-INFJ (Dominant function: Intuition, T and F opposite)
ISTJ-ESFP (Dominant function: Sensing, T and F opposite)
ESTP-ISFJ (Dominant function: Sensing, T and F opposite)
INTP-ENTJ (Dominant function: Thinking)
ISTP-ESTJ (Dominant function: Thinking)
ENFJ-INFP (Dominant function: Feeling)
ESFJ-ISFP (Dominant function: Feeling)

---

I'd love to hear any thoughtful comments.

Also, if anyone is aware of a source who has already published this hierarchy, please let me know.

Yours,
Tanja (INTJ)

Please Understand Me II: Temperament Character Intelligence
by David Keirsey, Ray Choiniere (Foreword by)

From the Publisher
For the past twenty years Keirsey has continued to investigate personality differences — to refine his theory of the four temperaments and to define the facets of character that distinguish one from another. His findings form the basis of Please Understand Me II, an updated and greatly expanded edition of the book, far more comprehensive and coherent than the original, and yet with much of the same easy accessibility. One major addition is Keirsey's view of how the temperaments differ in the intelligent roles they are most likely to develop. Each of us, he says, has four kinds of intelligence — tactical, logistical, diplomatic, strategic — though one of the four interests us far more than the others, and thus gets far more practice than the rest. Like four suits in a hand of cards, we each have a long suit and a short suit in what interests us and what we do well, and fortunate indeed are those whose work matches their skills. As in the original book, Please Understand Me II begins with The Keirsey Temperament Sorter, the most used personality inventory in the world. But also included is The Keirsey Four-Types Sorter, a new short questionnaire that identifies one's basic temperament and then ranks one's second, third, and fourth choices. Share this new sorter with friends and family, and get set for a lively and fascinating discussion of personal styles.

Recently, over the past year or so, I've been exploring more esoteric forms of vibrational play- YOGA (all forms, hatha [most common in the West, the physical form], jnana [knowledge, philosophy, psychology], karma [selfless service], bhakti [divine devotion], and raja ["royal," concentration and mastery]), Pranic Healing (energy healing taught by Choa Kok Sui), and journalism (co-anchoring a bilingual news show on fiercely independant listener-sponsored KPFK, 90.7FM in Los Angeles).

I am entirely new at this but felt like jumping into the deep end right away. I have an undergrad degree in mechanical engineering from RIT and live in western NY state (Buffalo / Niagara Falls area). I have been searching for a job forever and a day now. My wife and I are willing to relocate almost anywhere there is sunshine and a good opportunity. Also, I have recently developed an invention and am in the process of making a prototype ("reduction to practice"). I am filing the patent application myself probably in a few weeks. This invention, if marketed correctly, could allow me to stop looking for work and allow me to be a full time inventor (my dream). I am trying to connect with anybody that has any experience with patents, business development, etc.

Thanx! -Sid.

My TYPE intelligence theory (within each Temperament)

While I recognize ever more the limitations of the MBTI matrix as a description for real individuals - so much individualizing information is necessarily unaccounted for and it seems clear to me that we have "ranges" and tendencies (based on strength of each variable) rather than ironclad types, though it makes it harder to predict others - the INTP in me relishes the relationships that can be inferred within the context of the matrix.

An idea of which I am particularly fond is that if Keirsey temperaments may be understood as intelligence orientations, a pattern of sub-orientations appears to emerge within each temperament.

http://keirsey.com/matrix.html
http://keirsey.com/personality/nt.html
http://keirsey.com/personality/nf.html
http://keirsey.com/personality/sp.html
http://keirsey.com/personality/sj.html

It's important to realize that the temperaments are based on the generalization of tendencies toward "abstractness" versus "concreteness" or intuitive versus sensorial direction of attention and communication (N/S) and cooperative versus utilitarian implementation of goals (NF, SJ v. NT, SP).

From there, an area of skill or intelligence is defined (reasonably well, I think) in the following categories:

Guardians: Logistical Provision (Concrete-Cooperative)
Artisans: Tactical Variation (Concrete-Utilitarian)
Idealists: Diplomatic Integration (Abstract-Cooperative)
Rationals: Strategic Analysis (Abstract-Utilitarian)

These categories are further divided by T/F for Sensorial Temperaments and P/J for Intuitives into (introverts and extroverts are in the same categories):

Guardians: T-Administrators, F-Conservators
Artisans: T-Operators, F-Entertainers
Idealists: P-Advocates, J-Mentors
Rationals: P-Engineers, J-Coordinators

Now - I find colors to be helpful in the next step. These are somewhat arbitrary - as are the type names, but they are the way I learned them. I will subdivide the types in each temperament into subtemperament based on skill or intelligence attributes. Remember that I'm only hypothesizing each particularly type is a __(blank)__ type of _(insert Temperament)_ intelligence/skill.

* Guardians ("Gold") - seeks DUTY/Security
Supervisor ESTJ (Orange-Gold, or Tactical V. of Logistic P.)
Inspector ISTJ (Green-Gold, or Strategic A. of Logistic P.)
Provider ESFJ (Blue-Gold, or Diplomatic I. of Logistic P.)
Protector ISFJ (Gold-Gold, or Logistic P. of Logistic P.)

* Artisans ("Orange") seeks FREEDOM/Sensation
Promoter ESTP (Orange-Orange, or Tactical V. of Tactical V.)
Crafter ISTP (Green-Orange, or Strategic A. of Tactical V.)
Performer ESFP (Gold-Orange, or Logistic P. of Tactical V.)
Composer ISFP (Blue-Orange, or Diplomatic I. of Tactical V.)

* Idealists ("Blue") seeks HARMONY/Identity
Teacher ENFJ (Gold-Blue, or Logistic P. of Diplomatic I.)
Counselor INFJ (Green-Blue, or Strategic A. of Diplomatic I.)
Champion ENFP (Orange-Blue, or Tactical V. of Strategic I.)
Healer INFP (Blue-Blue, or Diplomatic I. of Diplomatic I.)

* Rationals ("Green") seeks EXCELLENCE/Knowledge
Fieldmarshal ENTJ (Blue-Green, or Diplomatic I. of Strategic A.)
Mastermind INTJ (Gold-Green, or Logistic P. of Strategic A.)
Inventor ENTP (Green-Green, or Strategic A. of Strategic A.)
Architect INTP (Orange-Green, or Tactical V. of Strategic A.)

The reiterative ones iNFp, iSfJ, eStP, and eNTp I think of as hypertemperaments. The hardest ones for me to distinguish were INTP and ENTP - I couldn't tell for a while which would be Orange-Green and which Green-Green, until I looked at what the temperaments sought and realised the compensatory narscisism associated with an extreme ENTP ("look how many books I wrote!") is really a breakneck striving for excellence, while the schiziod hermitude of an extreme INTP is really a desire for freedom (from people, distractions, even outcomes or uses of information) in the quest for a "universal" mastery (ok, really just familiarity) of knowledge or systems.

I saw other patterns when I was heavily into this stuff last winter, but none are nearly as interesting. The MBTI system, for all its flaws and limitations, has helped me understand and appreciate different kinds of people.

Feel free to post and reactions or new perspectives on the topic of MBTI systematicity!
